a question of time

by wensum24 @ 22/06/2006 - 11:16:53

Answering number three, openly, is optional, but I'm sure we all have an answer somewhere!

1) If you could have dinner with 3 people from any time in history, whom would you invite? Why?

2) If you could have heard the deathbed confession of one person from history, who would you pick?

3) Which famous person, now dead, do you wish you could have seen naked?

4) Which is more important: actual experiences, or the memories that remain when the experiences are over?

AAAAAAh Great :D
1) I'd invite..from History, so...:
- D.Afonso Henriques, the I of Portugal (King)
- D.Joao II of portugal (King)
- D.Carlos the V, Emperor, but also known as Carlos (Charles) I of Spain
WHY? I'd like to know others ghreat men or women but well by the moment i choosed this 3:
- the 1st.King of my country, he manage conquer almsot what is nowadays Portugal, went various times against to the Pope's word, etc... and had been a great King, died with 72 years old, on c.XII and had broken legs during lots of times, but that never stoped him to conquer and bild a kingdom know as PORTUCALE, later Portugal
- the one who manage the decision of discover the all WORLD and give to know to others at the time, great man and great king, a evolutionary king indeed as he revoltonated the world with this FOREVER
- Because had been a geart man with great attitude and personality, his unique wife was a portuguese princess, daughter of our D.Manuel, the king, and the only woman he always said had the way to be an Imperatriz, and Queen. He managed with all that EMPIRE, was all EUROPE, maintain it at the time while he had been alive..is father of Filipe the I of Portugal or Filipe the II of Spain, the most poewrful man in the History till now as he reunited the two Empires, or the world, the spanish and the portuguese one in his hands..i'd like to invite this Filipe too..and others
:D HAPPY?

1)Dr Hoffmann, Carlos Casteneda, Frank Herbert - more importantly would be what we would have for dinner...

2)Rasputin

3)Adam & Eve before the apple incident

4)seeing that memories rely on experiences in order to exits - experiences seem more important - you cant document memories objectively because opinion and judgement come into play - experience is in the moment, memories in the past - it may be more important to live in the moment its the closest connection your future - feelings are what they are when you experience them - memory change the authenticity of experience and is subject to glamour - both have unique value though which ultimately makes them unquantifyable/uncomparable from a scientific point of view

HI, thanks so much for yur answers and comment...sorry I'm late replying to everyone, (hospital).
Rasputin is definitely an interesting answer I agree.

I can relate to what you say, ("...it may be more important to live in the moment its the closest connection your future"...) which is a sound basis for living right here, right now.
In our everyday living, it is true, over time they are unquantifiable.
Thanks so much for your valued comments!

1) Einstein, Socrates and Apollonius of Tyrna - really good conversation, though I'davoid the hemlock!
2) Jesus Christ (if you don't mind fictional characters) - there's a few questions I'd like to ask him
3) Marilyn Monroe (sorry to be so cliched)
4) the memories definately, they can be made so much more interesting than the actual event and improve with the e-telling.

I could never argue with your answer to No.3!!!
Memories are valuable aren't they, and can help us through a difficult present.
Thanks always!

I'd like to say hope you're settling down in your new location but of course you would much rather be out and free, and free of all these bloody doctors. I hope you and Carla don't have split loyalties next Saturday!
I find a lot of my memories come back to me through my dreams now.

1)Marie Antoinette d'A,Ekaterina II and Kaiserin Elisabeth.

Must be a big battle !All must be very strong personality"

2)Picasso
If he could give me some of his paints??
I am intersted in his mind to draw funny( sorry!) masterpieces

3)River Phoenix
It was great shame he passed away

4)I think actual experiences are more important in theory but I tend to keep memories rather than actual experiences. As actual experiences are not always nice and just better to keep good memories and forget bad one!

1) If you could have dinner with 3 people from any time in history, whom would you invite? Why?

John Lennon,Sigmund Freud and Samuel Beckett.Because I think alot of whiskey would be drunk, maybe some mind enhancing drugs taken and a bit of Pshycoanalytical delving done. And I looked on my bookcase to get this answer!Actually...can I have 4 and put Jack Kerouac in there too...?Ahhaaa...now I've just seen William Blake's biography. This dinner table is getting too crowded...

2) If you could have heard the deathbed confession of one person from history, who would you pick?

I'm trying to think of someone who died with a big pile of treasure hidden buried away somewhere but didn't tell.....

3) Which famous person, now dead, do you wish you could have seen naked?

River Pheonix has already been taken....I expect we could share but it isn't very original of me.Do I just get to see them or can I touch?

4) Which is more important: actual experiences, or the memories that remain when the experiences are over?

Oh!This is a good one. Memories that remain have to be the most important because without them what do we have? The actual experience doesn't exist without the memory. I'm doing a course as part of my degree focusing on memory and loss -can you give me a year to answer this ?It will be in the form of 2 3000 word essays and one creative journal !

Hi, thanks for your answers, I like them...and John Lennon, whisky...sounds good!!
You can definitely include Jack Kerouac, yes!!! William Blake? ok, I agree too, hahaha!!!

Yes, an essay is mrited for Q.4 I think...as there's so much to say there, for everyone.
Memories are valuable and vital to most of us.

1) John Lennon, Jimmy Buffet and Joan of Arc
Just because and not necessarily at the same dinner party.

2)Cleopatra

3) No one...let's be real the naked body isn't all that glorious...we all have one!

4) Actual experience of course....you always have the memories to reflect upon after the fact.
