Hold me,
on this month's first day
in your presence
a prehensory sway
and in spirit,
the mien of hopeful endeavour
recovering,
my flotsam of pained demeanour
stand by me
as I with you
the concatenation of us
embracing our deliquescent hue
a northern light
and southern sun
from ocean's balcony meet
without hesitation.
As you can see from my recent posts, I'm not especially happy, nor on a natural high.
I am awaiting a major spinal operation, and have suffered with very increased medication, some of which have reacted violently with my heart.
But add to this the fact that I've been getting some absolute crap, simply because I have a blog, and that has made me wild.
Last night, I decided to freeze this blog, indefinitely...but this morning, upon reflection, and a sobering of medication, realised that this blog is, largely, me...so it will continue.
Damn any bugger that crosses my path with filth in the future.
The Sister's of Mercy came to my call, unexpectedly it must be said, and frontman, Andrew Eldritch, a fellow East Anglian, has given an incentive to recover...who would think it, with their sound...but that is exactly what has happened. I'm coming back!
But, a long, long path awaits.
The group have recorded three original studio albums, of which the last was released in 1990. Each album was recorded by a different line-up, the only constant member was singer and songwriter Andrew Eldritch.
The group ceased recording activity in 1994, when they went on strike against their record company TimeWarner, which it accused of withholding royalties and incompetence. Although TimeWarner eventually let the band go in 1997, they have not signed to another label, and have chosen not to go the "independent label" route, despite showcasing numerous new songs in their live set.
Since 1985, when other original members left, The Sisters of Mercy became the artistic vehicle of Andrew Eldritch. Some ex-members of the group established bands Ghost Dance and UK band The Mission.
The band cited Leonard Cohen and Motörhead, as well as the The Stooges and Suicide among their influences. The latter two bands are respectively considered to be proto-punk and punk, and as such the band shares influences with other bands in the first wave of what is termed "goth" music. Whilst the band enjoys a considerable fan base with overlapping interests in so-called dark culture, The Sisters of Mercy consider themselves first and foremost a rock band. They have actively discouraged their association with "goth" via regular public statements in the press, not to mention stipulations in their standard contract riders. Nevertheless, this has not stopped them from regularly appearing at festivals where this music is featured, such as M'era Luna. For further discussion on this point, see the article on Andrew Eldritch.
The Sisters of Mercy were highly influential to the second wave of Gothic rock bands.

No Time to Cry
It's just a feeling
I get sometimes
A feeling
Sometimes
And I get frightened
Just like you
I get frightened too
but it's...
CHORUS
(no no no) No time for heartache
(no no no) No time to run and hide
(no no no) No time for breaking down
(no no no) No time to cry
Sometimes in the world as is you've
Got to shake the hand that feeds you
It's just like Adam says
It's not so hard to understand
It's just like always coming down on
Just like Jesus never came and
What did you expect to find
It's just like always here again it's...
CHORUS
Everything will be alright
Everything will turn out fine
Some nights I still can't sleep
And the voices pass with time
And I keep
[repeat]
No time for tears
No time to run and hide
No time to be afraid of fear
I keep no time to cry
It's the land you should know
of the East and South as well
in reaching the Flemings
Dutch speakers now dwell
We're all things but you cannot tell
uniquely preserved of historic plenitude
yet no Fleeting Streets of capital swell
our cultural position of impressive latitude
Your Broads and sandy expanse
the haven of popular demand
city alive at UK number 5
Romanistically awash between sea and Broadland
A Breckland roost
a scalene folly
one Saxon escarpment
by my Wensum holly
Such hypaethral ruin
Tud blue and whistle
a Royal Norfolk Tudor-housed show
of treasures crowned with a thistle.
This Whistle Test performance by the Sisters of Mercy, for me, ranks as the zenith of British goth music live performances on tv. It was awesome, magical, spiritual, and still to this day, especially this day, inspiring, with the ability to give goosebumps...otherworldly paradise.
I saw the Sister's of Mercy play live in 1984, or 85, and they were amazing...not the sort of band a mother enjoyed hearing her son playing late at night!!
Other songs which have this effect are;
The Cult: Resurrection Joe
Siouxsie & the Banshees: Israel
Bauhaus: Double Dare.
Sister's of Mercy: Marian
In a sea of faces, in a sea of doubt
In this cruel place your voice above the maelstrom
In the wake of this ship of fools I'm falling further down
If you can see me, Marian, reach out and take me home.....
CHORUS
I hear you calling Marian
Across the water, across the wave
I hear you calling Marian
Can you hear me calling you to
Save me, save me, save me from the
Grave...
Marian
Marian, there's a weight above me
And the pressure is all too strong
To breathe deep
Breathe long and hard
To take the water down and go to sleep
To sink still further
Beneath the fatal wave
Marian I think I'm drowning
This sea is killing me
CHORUS
Was ich kann und was ich könnte
(What I can do and what I could do)
Weiss ich gar nicht mehr
(I just don't know anymore)
Gib mir wieder etwas schönes
(Give me something beautiful again)
Zieh mich aus dem Meer
(Drag me from the sea)
Ich höre dich rufen, Marian
(I hear you calling Marian)
Kannst du mich schreien hören
(Can you hear me calling?)
Ich bin hier allein
(I am here alone)
Ich höre dich rufen, Marian
(I hear you calling Marian)
Ohne deine hilfe verliere ich mich in diesem Ort
(Without your help I am lost in this place)
CHORUS
[repeat Marian til end]
Ich benötige nicht Nahrung,
ich benötige nicht Bewegung,
ich bin ohne einen Moment,
so zutreffend,
wenn Musik solche Energie hat,
um durch die Dekaden,
Leben alleine zu tragen werde ernährt,
durch eins,
komme ganz sonst,
alles in ihm bin Platz.
I don't need food,
I don't need movement,
I am without a moment,
Alone so true,
When music has such power,
To carry through the decades,
Life will be nourished,
By one,
Comes all else,
Everything in it's place.
"I can feel very brave through all the action scenes in front of the people who are on the set, but when a girl comes close to me my face turns red because I'm so shy." -Jet Li
Li Lian Jie, or Jet Li as he's typically known today, was born on April 26th, 1963 in Heibei, Beijing, China. At the age of two, his father passed away and young Li was left to take care of his mother. As with most women who lose their husbands, she became excessively protective of her son. In fact, she wouldn't even let him ride a bicycle. This type of strict parenting resulted in Jet Li becoming very timid and fearful, which can be seen in his movies to this day, though not in his action scenes!
