Guten morgen, perhaps

Some desire is necessary to keep life in motion.

~Samuel Johnson

Hello everyone,

I'm awake to the roaring sound of the wind howling outside within the eddy of hospital buildings. What an ironic name...

Yesterday I had some scans for my spinal cord and neck, and some physio, traction, and then treatments and injections. I felt euphoria for an hour or so, then deep depression. Being filled up with harder drugs is not a good path to take, but I realise it may be the only one. (I now reterm it, mediSIN.)

The scan revealed some rather disconcerting news; I will need yet another major spinal operation on February 12th. :(
I'm just not ready for this, how can it be? Am I still unconscious? This just cannot be happening to me.
It is a surprise at how soon it is, because usually they 'offer' surgery several months hence, but not this time.

So that means I'll have to find some more resolve in just two weeks.

It's got to be better than this, surely....surely...

Have a lovely day,
Ed
xx

Sorry to read that you need another operation; I hope you can build up a bit of strength for these next couple of weeks.

You mentioned traction; well being in traction is the first thing I can remember - I was only a toddler and had broken my left thigh.

Thank you my friend, I hope so too...I really need to be on form for that date.

That early memory of traction, is it a good one? My surgeon and physio both highly recommended it, and yesterday's experience of traction was certainly positive.

We've a howling gale here...there too?

It must have been a good experience because I usually spend a few minutes every day doing stretching exercises; however, since I'm 6ft 3ins tall I'm often stuck in cramped spaces and need to stretch my legs just by walking about a bit.

The weather here is awful; strong winds and heavy rain, but forecast to improve by this afternoon.

Morning exercises are the best, I've been told...and have been advised to do the same.
I'm nowhere near 6'3", just 5'11", so you must feel the cramped sensation quite a bit.
I can't wait to resume walking someday...the most natural of all isn't it.

We've no rain yet...must be a joy awaiting us in Norwich!

All the very best to you.

Yes, it is actually VERY distressing for me, because the pain in my neck I just assumed was from the lower spine, and they never really believed me anyway...but now I know it IS true...they almost try to make me think I'm imagining pains...with the medical record I've got!!!

Better days...yes...give me a pole-vault and I will try to make it there :))

You could always ask the Nurses to bring you a pole so you can leap over the doctors that are literally causing you pain in the neck! Just don't slip on that bananna peel :))

wensum24wensum24 [Member]
http://wensum24.blog.co.uk
04/02/08 @ 20:21

thats a good point, but what'll those nurses think of me asking for a pole? they're already suspicious of the mess under my bed...chocolates, banana skins, crow bars, stardust :))

Strolling by Medecin university in santiago I devised a few medical books sold on the sidewalk...

I took a peep at them, just because medecine is such a pride in our country (not only attending humans but making human doctors from all poor countries to go back and continue health care Cuba is giving beyond it's boundaries).

then this one brodeau hard cover book whistled me with golden letters "SPINE". Mine it was at once with a closer to me one on Cuban painting. I went through it... easier than I thought since only image reading and cases to study as exercices...

It was another way to think of you, of the Colombian medecin student at my mother's home potponing spine surgery to keep on on his studies... and practice (essential part in learning in Cuba)and even of my feable age spine and neck pain making me stumble and teaching me more and more not always in a smile...

This book I left to the Colombian future doctor and his room mate.

by the way, I wasn't able to read all cases as they were getting more and more complicated and painful... but guess what. i found on page 15 or was it 16 a tiny little sketch mentioning symptoms on one column, spine location and diagnosis ! Gee ! It was so simple ! so exactly described as felt and heard ! Then why were doctors so little minding of things i tried to describe when it seems so impossible to describe pain is bitting you just then and changing seconds after to again come in another way ? It - seemed - so - clear !!!

I wanted to copy it... then had no time as there is never enough time to leave wherever you be to go into a new situation...

But might as well try to get it for you... above all.

Dearest Ed, on is on and there you go. Don't take account if you feel going bang bang, dazzling lonst in mist and again, again, again, plus, encore, on remets ça... You are still you bold or lost you will always be our biggest friend, marvelous Ed we all wish to see walk. Yes you can !

Last night my friend, I'm staying at (since I have no more home waiting to stay and settle in one home island)told me about a young men he met at the association he works in time to time keeping members in shape and good physical condition inspite of... this person got a virus just like that ! and went paralysed. paraplégique. It took him 5 years to recover movement, walk and talk... What makes him insist in physical training is the safecord to cling to and s haalready saved him. but it must have started so painfully in his mind, refusing to cooperate, paralysed itself...

I have only heard of success in all spine I have seen around me and so I say to this colombian student, Victor, postponing his while I see his body change to face pain in daily shores.

I believe in you and enlightment of your doctors.

You are a man ! A wonderful one !!!

besitos, Ed

yoli
